NoTAM - Norwegian Centre for Technology in Music and the Arts (NOR)
From 1993 to 2010, I was responsible for establishing, building up and directing NOTAM - Norwegian Center for Technology in Music and the Arts. This included defining the profiles and policies for academic resarch, artistic development, dissemination of our results, education, administration and finance. In addition to driving the centre administratively and academically, I have had a few opportunities for r&d that included my personal interests as well. From 2010 can be mentioned the symposia Soundscape in the Artsfrom April, and Electronics meet the Challenges of the 21st Century, produced under the Warszaw Autumn Festival in September. I have completed a collection of articles from the first symposium, and it will be finished from print in May 2011. In May 2011, NOTAM produced the symposium Technology and Aestetics, where I had a hand in the programming. 2012 and 2013 were largely dedicated to moving and setting up NOTAM in a now location.
Working at NOTAM has given me the opportunity to take responsibility for aspects of the development of the Norwegian music and art scene with a broader perspective than what one gains by working in one institution, and I have been on several boards and committees in professional organisations in Norway and internationally. Among these, I was responsible for building and operatingArtNet Norway, until is was dismembered and moved to the information department of the Norwegian Archive, Library and Museum Authority. Now, this directorate has been discontinued, and their functions spread among other institutions. Other examples are board positions in The Norwegian Section of ISCM and the Ultima Festival for a number of years in the early nineties, as well as seven years as publication officer at the board of International Computer Music Association, which every year is responsible for theInternational Computer Music Conference someplace on the planet. Every year I read articles or contribute with music selection for several international conferences, next to my work with the journal Organised Sound. I was part of the starting up and the first few years of running the DAFX-conference, a pointed European professional conference on musical signal processing, as well as the EU-project Integra, that closed in 2011 following two three-year terms. Curretly, the EU-project Composing with Sounds is nearing completion.
On these pages one can find information about music, videos, installations and texts that I have composed and authored, and about other things that I have been engaged in.
